Angel.
Last week you may have seen this face being shared around Facebook. Thanks to one person who refused to give up on finding a safe haven, this dog is safe.
Angel is currently in Kuujjuarapik, PQ. With a broken leg, no home, and no food, Angel's time was running out. A resident in Kuujjuarapik took to Facebook and began working tirelessly to help Angel, contacting Wendy Daniels of 106.9 THE BEAR. After some feverish work, things began to fall into place:
Inuit Airlines will be flying a crate to Kuujjuarapik for FREE today, and locals have raised money to fly Angel to Ottawa in the coming week. Angel's foster is none other than Wendy, who fostered and then adopted Surrey from HH, a dutch decoy spaniel who arrived in HH care in May due to a broken leg.
The support has been tremendous, but the hard work isn't over. With four other dogs in HH care that require surgery, we need your help and we can only do this with you. Whether it's the cost of your cappucino, frappucino, or afternoon chocolate bar, every amount helps.
To donate to Angel's care, please visit our Canada Helps and select ANGEL from the drop down menu.
As Hopeful Hearts is a registered charity, a tax receipt will be issued for any amount over $20.00.
Thank you to Mike Seguin for not giving up on Angel, and to Wendy Daniels for always being there to help an animal in need.

Newt: 10 months later!
In August 2011 we met a little six week old Pomeranian named Newt. Due to a faulty heart valve, this little boy was being brought in for euthanization. Roz, always at the right place at the right time, happened to be at the vet's office when Newt was brought in by the breeders, and she asked if they would consider surrendering him to Hopeful Hearts so we could try to save him. After some consideration, his owners agreed and Newt officially became a member of the Hopeful Hearts family.
Newt's story tugged on quite a few heart strings and within a week, over $4000.00 was donated by some very generous people to assist Hopeful Hearts with surgery costs.
At the end of August, we brought Newt to see Dr. Planté at Centre Veterinaire DMV where Newt underwent heart surgery. He was the smallest dog they had ever operated on so it was a nervous time for all involved, but thanks to their wonderful and caring staff, everything went incredibly well.
As expected, it took Newt some time to recover from the major heart surgery, but once he was in the clear, Newt had a new lease on life.
In the end, Newt was adopted by his foster mom who decided that she just couldn't let him go. All it takes is one look at this brave little survivor and you can see why.
Thank you to everyone who played an integral role in Newt's journey. Thanks to your amazing support and donations, Newt has a long and happy life ahead of him.

Dog of the Week: AJ!
Go ahead, feel them. I have the softest ears ever.
My name is AJ. Hi! I am a walker-hound mix and I will be 2-years-old in September. I am such a good boy – want me to show you my ‘sit’ and ‘heel’? I’m really good when you leave me alone, no accidents or anything (I’m almost 2!), and I’ll only chew on toys that you tell me are mine. The squeaky Kong ball is one of my favourites. Speaking of favourite things, I love to curl up next to you on the couch and snuggle, then fall asleep. I promise I don’t snore.
Want to learn more about me? Check out my feature in Pawsh Magazine!
If you think you might have room for a fuzzy eared dog, please email adopting@hopefulhearts.ca or fill out an adoption application here!

Dog of the Week: Cindy Lou Who!
Cindy Lou Who is a quiet, thoughtful girl who, once she gets to know you, will smooch and happily snuggle on your lap for an evening of TV. She is looking for a caring and compassionate home who will help build her confidence and understands she is shy when in new situations or meeting new people. Although she didn't have the best start in life, having been one of the 527 dogs seized from a large puppy mill, her sweet, gentle personality is what people remember about her.
Cindy Lou is a Rat Terrier, about 2 years old and weighs 10 pounds. She is great with other dogs (although prefers the company of her favourite human) but will bark at cats because after all, she is a terrier as she's just starting to figure out. :)
Cindy Lou still sometimes finds the world a bit overwhelming so will retire to the safety of her crate or her nice dog bed conveniently located under the human bed. She is a very clean dog and as long as she is let outside regularly does not have accidents in the house. She would do best in a quiet adult home - someone home part of the day would be a bonus although she is used to being left for a full work day.
If you have room in your heart and home to give Cindy Lou Who the forever home she has been waiting for, please email adopting@hopefulhearts.ca

Dog of the Week: Kennedy!
My name is Kennedy and I am a tri-pawed. You don't need to feel sorry for me though, I get along just fine on three legs. That being said, there are a few additional things that need to be considered when caring for me in order to preserve the use of my legs for the duration of my life. Don't worry though, the knowledgeable people at Hopeful Hearts will be happy to go over all the special information with you - there are a number of tri-pawed dogs that have come through Hopeful Hearts and happy families to share their secrets with you.
Want to learn more about me? Visit Pawsh Magazine where I am happy to tell you all about myself.
If you would like to bring me home, you can fill out an application here or email adopting@hopefulhearts.ca.
