Newt: 10 months later!

In August 2011 we met a little six week old Pomeranian named Newt. Due to a faulty heart valve, this little boy was being brought in for euthanization. Roz, always at the right place at the right time, happened to be at the vet's office when Newt was brought in by the breeders, and she asked if they would consider surrendering him to Hopeful Hearts so we could try to save him. After some consideration, his owners agreed and Newt officially became a member of the Hopeful Hearts family.

Newt's story tugged on quite a few heart strings and within a week, over $4000.00 was donated by some very generous people to assist Hopeful Hearts with surgery costs.

At the end of August, we brought Newt to see Dr. Planté at Centre Veterinaire DMV where Newt underwent heart surgery. He was the smallest dog they had ever operated on so it was a nervous time for all involved, but thanks to their wonderful and caring staff, everything went incredibly well.

As expected, it took Newt some time to recover from the major heart surgery, but once he was in the clear, Newt had a new lease on life.

In the end, Newt was adopted by his foster mom who decided that she just couldn't let him go. All it takes is one look at this brave little survivor and you can see why.
